Contents & Scope

The Roboy Team comprises of an interdisciplinary team of students and PhDs that aim to further the development of the anthropomimetic robot Roboy. The team consists of 5 sub-teams:

  • Mechatronics – Design, model and build the mechanical system of Roboy comprising muscles, tendons and a skeletal structure. But also work towards making the system more robust and resilient.
  • Middleware – Build and expand our electronic frameworks which allows for 3kHz control frequency of all motors. Integrate external sensors and maintain the fundamental link between the hard- and software.
  • Control – From low-level PID controls on the motors, over inverse kinematics for tendon systems, to walking alogrithms and world estimation – control concerns itself with everything that makes Roboy move.
  • Simulation/VR – Build the virtual Roboy and close the simulation-reality gap. Furthermore, integrate Roboy into the Human Brain Project to enable neuroscientists to use our systems for their research.
  • Cognition – Help make Roboy smart by building it’s cognitive system, with a dialog manager, object recognition, person recognition, memory and much more.

The goal is to build the next generation, Roboy 2.0 by November 2017.

To coordinate the team, we employ agile mechatronics development techniques (www.taf.expert)

Roboy is more than a lab course. Become part of a unique team of students, travel to fairs and international events and join its regular Hackathons (www.hackroboy.com)

At Roboy we build on industry standard frameworks such as ROS, Gazebo, PowerLink and Unity.

Required Skills

Very high motivation, well-structured working style, fun in playing with hardware and robotics. Previous knowledge in one of the sub-team’s core topics is required.

Contents & Scope

For the Seminar, there are two options:

  1. Become a TAF.expert, a role similar to a Scrum Master and guide two – three teams through their development process. Enabling them to deliver outstanding performance, and keeping the balance between work, documentation and due process.
  2. Review a topic relevant to the Roboy team: Work on our Pool of Knowledge, reading and summarizing papers so the team is always state of the art.

Required Skills

Very high motivation, well-structured working style. Be 100% reliable, precise but stay friendly under pressure.
